Student Interview: Khairul
We asked one of our current residents, Khairul from Malaysia, what it’s like making friends in a new country and what her favourite things about London are.
What are you studying?
I’m studying a BA in Accounting and Finance at London Metropolitan University. I’ve been living at Beaumont House for around 5 months now.
What’s your favourite thing to do in London when you have some spare time?
I like to get outside into the fresh air and take a walk. There are lots of lovely open spaces near to Beaumont House that I like to visit.
Did you find it difficult settling into a new house in a new country?
I did find it a little difficult at first, but as time goes by it becomes much easier to make new friends. I’m quite an introverted person, but all my housemates are really friendly and I’ve made a few good friends now.
What’s your favourite thing about Beaumont House?
My favourite thing is having the space to gather with friends to have fun. It’s great to be able to live with your friends and make use of the common room.
What advice do you have for a student moving to London?
Never be afraid of starting a new life in a different country away from your family. It might be scary at first, but it’s really fun and a great adventure. I would also say to get outside and get used to your surroundings so that you can start to feel at home right away.
