The Best London Food Deliveries During Lockdown

Whilst lockdown restrictions may be starting to lift slightly, ‘stay home’ is still the primary message. With that said, we’ve been staying home, keeping ourselves busy - and trying to stay healthy, too.

But it’s not easy to look after yourself when there are so many things to be worried or disconcerted by. So that’s why we’ve searched high and low for the best food delivery services still running across London - so that we can eat healthily and support local businesses, too.

Whether you’re determined to cook from scratch every day or would rather live on tasty takeaways, we’ve found 12 options to keep you going.

London Fruit & Vegetable Deliveries

It’s always important to get your 5-a-day, but especially important when our lifestyles have dramatically changed. We’re not getting as much fresh air as we used to and we’re trying to keep our immune systems as strong as possible - so getting fresh fruit and vegetables is vital.

While supermarket shelves may be looking a little sparse, there are plenty of local producers stepping up to meet demand. A few of our favourites are:

Oddbox - these guys are delivering fresh fruit and vegetables (contactless-ly, of course) to doorsteps across London. Oddbox collects fruit and veg that doesn’t make the cut for supermarkets: the wonky carrots, the curved cucumbers, the flat satsumas - they’re all rescued by Oddbox and delivered straight to you. Open for new orders on a first come first serve basis. Boxes start at £11.49.

Farmdrop - sourcing fresh fruit, vegetables and other farm produce from UK farmers, Farmdrop uses local suppliers to ensure sustainable supply chains. You can build your own boxes for delivery in 3 days time, even during a global pandemic - proving the power of local suppliers! Contactless deliveries and still accepting new customers.

Eversfield - award-winning organic fruit and veg boxes and a well-stocked shop of other staples, too. These guys are committed to sustainability and using local food, as well as ensuring that their products are delivered in environmentally friendly packaging. Fruit and veg boxes start at £11.95.

London Meat & Fish Deliveries

There’s nothing better than meat straight from the butchers - it’s fresh, never full of fillers, and is much better for you. We’ve found 3 amazing butchers/fishmongers who can deliver during this time, and you can order online too - easy peasy!

The Ethical Butcher - launched earlier this year, The Ethical Butcher work in partnership with a number of farms across the UK to provide high quality, organic meat - delivered fresh to your doorstep in completely sustainable packaging. Choose your meat or go for one of their selection boxes. Taking new orders. Curated boxes start at £55.

Farmison - having won many awards, including Online Butcher’s Shop Of The Year two years running, you’re in safe hands with Farmison. Choose subscription boxes or one-off orders of every meat you can imagine, delivered straight to your door. Taking new orders. Subscription boxes start at £36.50.

The Fish Society - if fish is more your thing, The Fish Society is your dream. Every type of fish and shellfish imaginable to mankind. Delivery next-day to ensure you get the freshest fish possible. Taking new orders. Next day delivery £7.50 for orders under £50.

London Recipe Boxes

Sometimes, cooking from scratch is just too much effort. But there’s no need to cave into freezer pizzas - try recipe box deliveries instead! Healthier than processed food, but without the faff of cooking a 3-course dinner from scratch. The perfect middle-ground.

Mindful Chef - much like it’s more well-known competitors, Mindful Chef combines nutritionally balanced recipes with local fresh ingredients, all portioned and ready to cook. Choose from 1 person, 2 person or family boxes and then pick your favourite recipes for delivery. Caters to lots of dietary requirements, too.

Feastbox - tickle your tastebuds with culinary delights from around the world with Feastbox. Koftas, Kormas, noodles and stews - Feastbox has a weekly selection of recipes to choose from. Ingredients and instructions are delivered straight to your door. Just cook and enjoy!
